Pet Loss and Grief Support Group
Thursdays, 6pm - 7:30pm, and Sundays, 2pm - 3:30pm,
The Anti-Cruelty Society, 169 W. Grand, Chicago
ACS hosts a pet loss support group for people coping with the death of a pet. The sessions are led by Connie Steutzer, LCSW, who has 20 years experience in grief support work. The group meets on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month, starting Sept. 18th and on the second and fourth Sunday, starting on Sept. 28th. The group is free, but pre-registration is required for the first visit. www.anticruelty.org

Small Dog Play Date
Saturday, June 6th, 10am - 1pm, Earth Pups, 2215 W. Belmont Ave., Chicago
Usher in summer with Earth Pups at our 3rd small dog socialization group. Your pups can play, socialize with their friends in our big playroom and sunbathe in our large outdoor area. Our expert groomer, Chalie, will be there offering FREE nail trims for your pups. And, as always, our favorite trainer, Janice Triptow from Dog Behavior Solutions, will be in attendance to give her valuable training advice. 10am - 11am is the Puppy Socialization Group and then 11am - 1pm is the Small Dog Socialization Group. Picking the Diamond in the Ruff

Whether you're shopping for your next agility prospect or volunteering for a rescue, this 4 hour seminar will help you hone your skills in picking the right pup. Presented by Nancy Reyes, top dog at the For Your Canine, the seminar will cover everthing from nuances in body language to making the best human canine match. Nancy's distinctive training approach is based on Suzanne Clothier's unique Relationship Centered Training (RCT). Nancy has organized an educational program to keep pet owners, pet trainers and rescue organizations abreast of new developements in dog training, nutrition and behavior. We will also discuss the very important issues of what characteristics can be changed with training and which ones are hard wired. We will also be evaluating rescue dogs. Special Blessing of the Pets

Animal Explorers Camp

Animal Explorers Camp invites middle school students to start making a difference in their world. This camp provides a meaningful opportunity for 6th - 8th grade students to discover the amazing world of animals. Campers will be mentored by staff from two of Chicago's most note-worthy organizations: The Anti-Cruelty Society and the Jane Goodall Institute's Roots and Shoots. Campers will get a chance to see the inner workings of the larges animal shelter in the midwest, interacting with kennel attendants, veterinary staff, a humane investigator and many four-legged residents! Other highlights include a visit to the Hoofed Animal Humane Society in Woodstock, and an experience on the Chicago River with the team from Friends of the Chicago River. A theme of "Making a Difference for Animals" is intertwined throughout the week and the class will have several service learning opportunities. PAWS Chicago's 7th Annual Beach Party
