ACS hosts a pet loss support group for people coping with the death of a pet.
The sessions are led by Connie Steutzer, LCSW, who has 20 years experience
in grief support work. The group meets on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of the
month, starting Sept. 18th and on the second and fourth Sunday, starting on
Sept. 28th. The group is free, but pre-registration is required for the first

right pup. Presented by Nancy Reyes, top dog at the For Your Canine, the seminar

canine match. Nancy's distinctive training approach is based on Suzanne Clothier's
unique Relationship Centered Training (RCT). Nancy has organized an educational
program to keep pet owners, pet trainers and rescue organizations abreast
of new developements in dog training, nutrition and behavior. We will also
discuss the very important issues of what characteristics can be changed with
training and which ones are hard wired. We will also be evaluating rescue

Animal Explorers Camp invites middle school students to start making a difference
in their world. This camp provides a meaningful opportunity for 6th - 8th
grade students to discover the amazing world of animals. Campers will be mentored
by staff from two of Chicago's most note-worthy organizations: The Anti-Cruelty
Society and the Jane Goodall Institute's Roots and Shoots. Campers will get
a chance to see the inner workings of the larges animal shelter in the midwest,
interacting with kennel attendants, veterinary staff, a humane investigator
and many four-legged residents! Other highlights include a visit to the Hoofed
Animal Humane Society in Woodstock, and an experience on the Chicago River
with the team from Friends of the Chicago River. A theme of "Making a
Difference for Animals" is intertwined throughout the week and the class
will have several service learning opportunities. Cost is $240 for Roots &
